Let’s face it we all go through some form of mild road rage every now and again, usually resulting in a few expletives here a few middle fingers there.  Sure we could be having an all round bad day but generally this road rage is brought on by one of those really annoying habits that some drivers insist on doing.  

So this list of Top Ten Annoying Driver Habits is in a way a little kick in the pants to everyone who is guilty of doing them and also a little reminder to us the “innocent ones” not to start doing them.

1. Slow drivers in the fast lane or slow drivers who speed up in a passing lane. Stop it!
2. Drivers who refuse to let you in as this would obviously add another 2 seconds onto their drive time.
3. Tailgating.
4. Braking without any reason to.
5. No indication, never.
6. People distracted by either; mobile phones, drinking coffee, smoking.
7. Speed demons.
8. Drivers crossing lanes when not paying attention.
9. Signal left and then turn right, oh yes the old switcheroo.
10. Drivers throwing out their rubbish.

Cocktails are often associated with white sandy beaches, parasols, neon signs, sunshine and handsome bartenders called ‘Jack’.  Thanks to the Quickten team you don’t have to wait until summer in fact you don’t even need Jack. Try some of these tasty tipples to melt away the chill of winter:

1. The Godfather – 1 measure Amaretto, 2 measure whisky. Serve in a tumbler over ice.
2. Mulled wine/gluhwein –750ml bottle merlot, 2/3 cup of Demerara sugar, juice and rind of 1 orange, 2 cinnamon stick, 4 cloves, 2 cardamom pods, 1 bay leaf, rind of ½ lemon,  large pinch fresh grated nutmeg. Put everything in a pan, heat until the sugar has dissolved. Don’t boil.
3. Boston Sidecar – 1 measure brandy, 1 measure light rum, 1 measure orange liqueur, and 1 tsp lemon or lime juice. Mix in a shaker with ice, strain and serve.
4. The Sazerac – 1 ½ measure bourbon, 3 dashes bitters, ¼ measure absinthe, ¾ measure simple syrup*. Chill a tumbler with ice. In a separate glass mix the simple syrup with the bitters, add the bourbon and ice stir. Discard the ice from the tumbler and rinse with the absinthe to coat the glass. Strain the bourbon and bitters into the chilled absinthe coated glass, discard the ice. Squeeze a lemon twist over the top off the glass.
5. Irish coffee – 1 measure Irish whiskey, hot coffee, whipped cream.
6. Brandy Sangaree – Simple syrup, 2 measures brandy, splash of port, fresh ground nutmeg to garnish. Mix the simple syrup in a glass, add the brandy top with port and sprinkle nutmeg on the top. To make a longer drink add soda water after the brandy, top with port.
7. Brandy Alexander – 1 measure cream, 1 measure brandy, 1 measure of crème de cacao, nutmeg to garnish. Mix the brandy, crème de cacao and cream in a shaker with ice. Strain and serve with fresh grated nutmeg on top.
8. Tom and Jerry – 1 egg, 1tsp icing sugar, 1 measure brandy, 1 measure dark rum, hot milk, freshly grated nutmeg to garnish. Separate the egg white from yolk beat them separately. Fold eggs together and put into a heart proof glass. Add the sugar, rum and brand. Top with hot milk and stir.
9. Moscow Mule – 2 measures vodka, 1 measure of lime juice, fresh mint, ginger beer, Demerara sugar, 3 drops of bitters. Muddle the sugar and mint in a tall glass, add the vodka and lime. Then ice, ginger beer and bitters. Stir and serve.
10. Vodka Martin – 2 measures vodka, 1 tsp vermouth, olive, lemon rind twist. Chill martini glass with ice. In separate glass chill vodka with ice. Empty ice from martini glass and rinse with the vermouth. Strain the chilled vodka into martini glass. Add lemon twist and an olive.

*Simple syrup: 1 tsp powdered sugar (icing or fine sugar), dissolved with 1 tsp water

For the purpose of this post I have used a 25ml/1oz jigger as 1 measure.

Some people have said the modern day Vuvuzela’s have been the best thing to happen to the atmosphere of sports events since Moises Garcia invented the Mexican Wave at the bullfighting arena Plaza de Toros de Santander back in the 1930′s.

Clearly those people are idiots and they do not understand the implications Vuvuzela’s have on the game such as;

• Killing the atmosphere which responds to the eb and flow of a game
• The singing and chanting banter is nullified
• Ability to effectively direct abuse at the referee
• A deafening drone
• People are being thrown into violent flashbacks to The Swarm circa 1978…..well maybe not that but I’m sure Micheal Caine of Swarm fame may have wet his pants a couple of times watching the world cup.

Anyway, we have been pondering some other uses for the Vuvuzela during the world cup:

1. She-Wee: If you are unsure of this and have the imagination of a rock then check it out here -

2. Leg Stump For One-Legged Pirates: Poor pirates will never have to go without ever again.
3. Fog Horn: Now this something that could really become the one-legged Pirates equivalent of a swiss army knife.  Just wip it off in Fog and away you go.
4. Snorkel: Preferably not after being used for a She-wee.
5. Road Cones: With road cones costing so much these days, why not utilise the undoubtedly inordinate amount of abandoned Vuvu’s.
6. Petrol Funnel: Simple but efficient, never spill a drop again.
7. Party Hat: Just get some string and punch two holes in wide end of the Vuvuzela and then away you go.  Party time you crazy cool cat or commonly known as a cock.
8. Hearing Device: Hard of hearing after too much football World Cup action? Well make the Vuvuzela pay back the hearing it took from you. Just don’t use in tight spaces or crowds.
9. Stilts for Dwarfs: Never again shall dwarfs walk around at knee height, No! Strap these onto your shoes and you will be knocking on 5 feet in no time!
10. Beer Bong: Obvious, but we thought we had better get it in this list somewhere.

A night to remember? Maybe not.

The most enjoyable responsibility of a groom’s best man is to ensure that the stag night or weekend, is one to be recounted for years to come; perhaps even made into folk songs. No stag ‘do’ is complete without capers and pranks. The sole purpose of these often juvenile stunts is to embarrass the groom for the amusement of the rest of the group as you celebrate them leaving bachelorhood.

Here is a collection of tame and not so tame ideas. Key to success is that the entire group (except the groom) pitch into a kitty to pay for the night AND that everyone takes an active part in stitching up the groom.

1. ‘Get into position’. Buy a bag of toy soldiers, each member of the group is given a soldier and on exit of each establishment they have to mimic the stance of their soldier. Funny as the evening progresses.
2. Kidnap the groom by surprise in public – or pay someone they don’t know to do it. The police frown on this one though so be careful.
3. Dress up. Make the groom dress up, for the whole night. Homemade or bought costumes ensure no costly dry cleaning bills at the end of the night, here’s some ideas: Chick, wrestler, Borat style mankini.
4. ‘Fake a break’ after the groom passes out put one of their limbs in plaster. When they wake the next day make up a befitting story to explain the break.
5. Dude that looks like a lady. Female strippers are passé, so get them a male stripper. Be ready to run when they discover the gender after they have got ‘excited’.
6. Organise a ‘Stag Quest‘. Prepare a list of items they have to obtain and tasks to perform. E.g. talk a girl into removing her bra, they have to get spanked by a copper, get a tattoo.
7. “Your vessel sir” Chain a tankard to the stag’s wrist for the whole night from which they have to drink.
8. Homemade fake beard. Make a beard from the groups hair (use your imagination) and paste it on the groom, (don’t tell him the source until after though). Disgusting, but still has laughter factor.
9. Mars bar trick. Wait until the groom is asleep, unwrap a mars bar and stick it between his arse cheeks in his undies. Next morning, is that melted chocolate or not?
10. Naked homing groom. Whilst still out strip the groom of all personal possessions, including clothes and let them navigate their way back. Don’t do this if it’s a freezing cold night, hyperthermia isn’t funny.

And remember it’s not amusing if there are permanent mental or physical scars so plan responsibly-ish.

Think before you eat.

Pesticides and herbicides are used on our foods constantly to improve yields and cut down on time at most industrial farms, but they can be VERY bad for your health no matter how much you wash them as these residues can seep into your foods. We have done a little bit of research and found the fruits and vegetables you should avoid unless you are sure that they come from an organic farm.

Either excessive pesticides are being used or these fruits have a higher absorption rate then others and are harder to remove the residues that can cause poor health in you and your family.

The ageing process.

The world of Single Malt Whisky is a confusing one with hundreds to choose from ranging from $30 to thousands of dollars. The Quickten team have put together a list of excellent Scottish malts so you can avoid making a pricey mistake.

Single malt whisky differs from other whisky in that it comes from only one distillery and is made with malted barley.

1. Cragganmore 12 yr – Speyside. Medium dry, smooth, slightly smoky.
2. Macallan 10yr- Speyside. Malty, strong sherry notes and spicy fruit cake.
3. Glenfarclas 12 yr – Speyside. Spicy sherry taste with a pleasant lingering oaky finish.
4. Longmorn 16yr – Speyside. Smoky, fruity, creamy and soft malt.
5. Balvenie double wood 12 yr – Speyside. Rich, smooth and complex.
6. Glenmorangie port finish – Highlands. Soft, smooth, raisins and hints of dark ripe plum.
7. Highland Park 12 yr – Orkney. Smoky, honey and heather flavours.
8. Springbank 12 yr – Cambeltown.  Toffee, complex and a long finish.
9. Laphroag 10 yr – Isle of Islay. Dry, peaty, iodine, hints of seaweed not for the faint hearted.
10. Caol Ila 10yr – Isle of Islay. Robust, peaty with a long finish.

Malt whisky says a lot about the drinker; unpretentious, a touch of refinement, they probably enjoy brussel sprouts, cold showers and fighting angry Jack Russells for the last toffee.

3D Movie Experience

With all the 3D movies coming out these days it does make us think about some of the great movies that could have been done (and maybe still can be done) in 3D.   Whilst this list might be slightly bias to our own tastes it could be the start of something big….maybe the movie producers will listen to The Quick Ten and start re-producing some of the below movies.  Or maybe they will stick to what they know best, making bucket loads of cash.

However if the producers of Street Dance 3D are listening, please, please, please never ever make this shit again.  It’s bad enough in 2D let alone some angry teenager “battling” in 3D.  I mean come on people!

1. The Matrix – the first and original one only please.
2. Alien – I remember weeing my pants slightly to this when watching it in 1990 via VCR  11 years after it’s release so I’m sure in 3D I might actually shit my pants.
3. Top Gun – Goose dying in 3D, bad but Maverick taking down some Mig’s, good.
4. Die Hard – this is where our bias comes in but I mean you would have to be crazy not to want to see Bruce Willis bleeding and shooting in 3D?
5. Star Wars Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back – The best one of them all and no Hayden Christensen in site to ruin a franchise with lines such as; “Hold me, like you did by the lake on Naboo.”
6. Saving Private Ryan – It would be a brutal watch but a memorable one.
7. Gladiator – We know Russel Crowe is a bit of a knob but Gladiator in 3D? Where is the popcorn and beer please.
8. Ghost Busters – Not crossing the beams would take on a whole new experience.
9. District 9 – This standout movie of 2009 would be amazing in 3D.
10. The Bourne Ultimatum – Bit of a wild card we know but for the raw fight scenes alone this would be brilliant .
